OUR FOCUS

“Through our multifaceted programs, we aim to achieve a good level of empowerment for our women and girls”.

OUR PROGRAMS

1.     We carry out various enlightenment programs in public secondary schools in the Federal Capital Territory, Nigeria. We educate them on topics such as:

•Sex education and Abstinence

• Mental Health and Well Being

•Goal Setting

• Value and Self worth

•Friendship and Relationship 

      


2.     We organize counselling sessions for women and girls that have been victimized or prone to such in our community. This session involves mental re-orientation and rehabilitation from

• Domestic Violence

•Sexual Abuse and Harassment

•Child Marriage, and

•Rape

Other counselling sessions are geared towards

• Preventing teenage pregnancies and

•Encouraging family planning


 

 3. We hold free vocational trainings to alleviate the financial predicaments of women in the local communities. GMBE team partner with NGOs like The Nigerian Red Cross Society, and successful female entrepreneurs to carry out advocacy programs to stop female molestation, child trafficking, domestic and sexual violence. Also, train and employ women and girls on vocational areas of interest such as:

•Agriculture (Fish farming)

•Baking

•Production of Soaps, Bleach, Perfumes, Air freshener and other   commodities.

•Hair making

• Makeup and Fashion

                              


4. Free tutorials in Mathematics and English Language for female students in Senior Secondary Schools in preparation for the West African Senior Secondary School Examination.

EDUCATION FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS

  Women and girls in Nigeria have had various challenges in order to obtain equal education in all forms of formal education in Nigeria. Education is a basic human right and has been recognized as such since the 1948 adoption of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights. A positive correlation exists between the enrolment of girls in primary school and the gross national product and increase of life expectancy. Because of this correlation, enrolment in schools represents the largest component of the investment in human capital in any society.
