ABOUT GMBE

Girls Must Be Empowered is a community-based initiative born out of great concern for imparting the lives of women and girls and mitigating the common crisis that the female gender face through exposing them to the right knowledge and supporting them to achieve their dreams. Through our programs, over 300 teenagers and youths in 4 different public secondary schools participate in our educational programs on a monthly basis and so far, this has resulted in the reduction of teenage pregnancies, sexual abuse and harassment. Furthermore, there has been a 30% increase in students' academic excellence in our community. Also, many of these students now engage in after-school petty businesses due to our free vocational trainings.

We have successfully trained up to 52 women and girls in Byazhin and Peze rural  communities on soap, bleach, air freshener and perfume production, fish farming, hair making, baking, makeup and fashion, which most of them now engage in as a daily their source of livelihood.

Our counselling sessions have been very impactful as women now serve as their sister’s keeper in our communities watching out for perpetrators of any form of violence in their homes and the community at large to deal with such situation collectively, or hand the matter over to the police as case presents.

OUR VISION

“To build a healthy society for women and girls to thrive in all ramifications”.

MISSION STATEMENT

To reduce and gradually eradicate

•Joblessness and poverty which has led to frustration and depression for women in our society.

• Sexual and domestic violence in our community which has caused  women to lose their sense of worth and Well-Being

• Early child marriage and pregnancies that has led to the incessant rate of STD's, other health complications and untimely death of many teenage girls in our society.

• Low schooling rate amongst females in our community.
